Property and propriety. Body and sex. Snobbery and civility. Inequality and violence. There is a name we give, sometimes without being fully aware of its depth and its reach, to this nexus: caste.

This is why, says Aishwary, “in the end all violence will have learned something from India.”

The question is, will India learn something from those distant from it, to whom this violent nexus is more sharply visible?
